A fog layer floats through the trees on a mountainside in the Colombia River Gorge outside Portland Oregon. Of particular note, I found the line of demarcation between fog and no fog to be almost unbelievably defined and can only presume that a difference between the two ridges is at least partially to blame. The photo was shot at 500mm which flattens the distance between objects and while the two ridges might seem to be on top of each other there could be a rather significant difference in both distance and altitude that is hard to see. This is a trick often used in feature films when a subject is chased by a large object or appears to be near an explosion but in reality, is a safe distance away.
