While I generally tell people I just get lucky a lot or I “just push a button,” there is some technical and experiential knowledge behind most of my photographs. In this case, however, it honestly just came down to dumb luck. My original plan was to capture a still frame “plate” of either several lightning strikes and then use a layer mask to add the plane, or get a still frame of the plane and then attempt to add the lighting. In this case, I was shooting the still frame of the plane at 30 FPS when the lightning struck in the background and was naturally included with the aircraft.
