Horseshoe Bend 2023

I took a few days to drive up to Horseshoe bend, stopping at the Mongollon Rim and Sedona on the way. This trip to the geological feature was significantly more challenging than a couple years ago. A late summer monsoon storm pushed through bringing with it wind gusts in excess of 50mph. The wind drove the surrounding sand hard enough to fill the creased line of a document that was in the pocket of my shorts and felt like getting hit with a sand blaster. At one point another photographer and I could only crouch down at our space near the edge and wait out the wind. I was going to pick up and go, but another line of storms on the horizon was providing the occasional lightning bolt and so I stuck it out to get this shot, which meant I was there well after sunset and was 1 of only 2 cars left in the parking lot on my way out.
