21 years ago at 9:03 am a Deputy Manager at the FAA’s regional air traffic control center on Long Island issues a command to clear the skies over New York City and its’ surrounding region. Not a single flight will be allowed in or out of New York. At 9:25 am an FAA National Operations manager on his first day at the job issues a nationwide ground stop, halting all aircraft on the ground from taking off. At 9:38 am that same manager makes the decision to land or divert every single aircraft either over the United States or headed this way.

Monsoon Season

Beginning in June and ending in September the Arizona monsoon season provides a much-needed respite from the hot dry days common to our summer weather. Along with the humidity comes an increased prevalence of rain and thunderstorms. This storm came up fast enough that I had to decide between making sure I was able to capture the storm before it blew through and moving to a more picturesque location. In the end, I decided that downtown Phoenix would have to suffice and the storm itself did not disappoint.

The Bench

Most of the time I take the Mormon Loop trail to the National Trail to get to the Buena Vista overlook but on this day, wanting t make it in time for sunrise, I decided to cheat and drive instead of hike. The overlook allows a panoramic view of downtown Phoenix with Piestewa Peak and Camelback Mountain in the distance. The overlook features a single bench on which to rest until returning to the trail.

Tempe Bridges

I hope this finds everyone rested up thanks to…and perhaps from the Thanksgiving holiday. After a crazy run of days between jury duty and working, I am enjoying several days off myself. I decided to run over to Tempe Town lake yesterday as I figured it might be a little less crowded than usual and I wasn’t disappointed.

As a side note, I’m always thinking of different ways to present the photos I take. This past year I’ve worked under the timeline of posting one photo per week…..or at least one primary photo per week. Occasionally I’ve had a set of photos and have either posted them as a group or posted one photo and then added the others to the gallery on my website. I am always working to find the balance between posting photos…..and trying not to be the friend that is constantly posting new content and/or asking you to check out items for sale. There is a fine line between keeping you intrigued or leaving you annoyed…. and I’m trying to walk it. So I’m going to start trying something new. If I end up with a series of photos in a shoot I will post a primary photo to FB and Instagram, as most of my traffic is to this account, and any subsequent photos may be posted to Instagram throughout the week What do you think?
