This photo is a good representation of how lighting can change for the better, even after the sun has set. I got to this location at the south end of the Salt River later then I meant to as I had stopped at my old address to pick up some mail and visit my two favorite furballs. As I was setting up, a man and his daughter were collecting mud from the banks of the river for some sort of project. The man mentioned that I was just a little late for the sunset and I acknowledged that he was right. I took a few shots from their location and then moved to another spot, often used to launch kayaks and small boats. The location provided a well framed shot of the Red Mountain with the water on the bottom and the branches of the tree on top. I probably debated even taking the picture for about 4 minutes but finally decided I might as well since I’d driven all the way out here. After a little back and forth a 30 second exposure stopped down to f 9.0 gave me what I was looking for and I was able to pull enough light and color back out of the scene to make it work.
