There is a saying in photography, one I’ve said before on this platform, “the best camera, is the one you have with you.” This was definitely the case for this photo. I drove down to Maricopa last Saturday to check out a field of sunflowers. The field was started 4 years ago with 5 acres and has grown to its current size of 70 acres. Sunflowers might seem an odd crop to grow in Arizona but as a drought-tolerant crop, the field is actually part of the farmer’s research project to see how well this rotation crop would work here in our desert heat. I got down to the field, found a spot I thought would work, and opened my camera bag…..only to find I had brought everything I needed except the actual camera. So I used my iPhone. I did go back the next day with my Canon, but I couldn’t remember where I was standing the day before and in the end, felt that the iPhone photo was the best shot between the two days.
