This series of Photos were all taken during our time on the Manitou Springs Cog Railway, including one photo of the arduous . The railway got its start when the inventor and founder of the Beautyrest Mattress Company, having made a 2 day trip to the top of Pikes Peak on a donkey, sought a way to allow others the same views he had with less effort. The first summit of Pikes Peak by railway was made by a church choir from Denver on June 30th, 1891. From that day the railway has operated almost non-stop with an exception for 3 years in 2018 to allow for upgrades to the track, train cars and a visitor center at the top. The train travels 8.9miles and gains almost 8000 feet on its way up the mountain.
