I’ve been asked numerous times to do family photos for various friends. I always refer these folks to a couple photographers I know from the ER that actually do that type of photography. When asked why I don’t shoot portraits I tell people that photography is kinda like nursing. I’m a decent ER/Trauma nurse but if you sent me to a pediatric hospital I would really struggle. In the same way I’m comfortable with landscape, photojournalistic or sports photography I’m basically useless when it comes to portraits or family photography. So it was that I had the opportunity to tag along with my friend while she shot family portraits for another friend of ours…all of having worked on the same Tele-unit together years ago. If a few of the images seem alright (I’ll admit they're not the worst I’ve shot) keep in mind that Rachel did all the work in terms of positioning and posing the subjects. All I had to do was shoot over her shoulder.
